Children need a balanced diet to grow, a well-fed child is more likely to reach their true potential. COVID-19 has adversely affected children not only physically but psychologically and emotionally too. In addition, most of the identified beneficiaries are seropositive and have comorbidities, becoming even more vulnerable.
KCA has committed to providing emergency supplies to 511 children in 189 families in Pune, India. With the support of Sahara Aalhad, KCA’s long-standing partner in India, KCA is delivering emergency supplies to the most vulnerable children. These emergency supply baskets include nutritious food and hygiene kits.
For $30 a child receives a food basket and a hygiene kit that benefits the whole family for one month.
India already bears a disproportionate burden of malnutrition in the world. Migrant women and children are most at risk as they have the least access to nutritious food. 69% of under-five deaths among children can be attributed to malnutrition in India, according to Unicef. This is likely to increase throughout the Covid-19 outbreak.
Due to a national lockdown, many women and children are now unable to access nutrition centers that were set-up to support them.
